I am beginning to list some sporting antiques and memorabilia including tennis, football and cricket, some early, rare or unusual. Here for the folk football collector and particularly enthusiasts of the world-famous Ashbourne Shrovetide game in Derbyshire is a very hard-to-find Royal Crown Derby Porcelain Company Limited Edition commemorative plate which was issued in 2001 as one of only 500, this being number 141 complete with its signed certficate. In absolutely mint condition in its original silk-lined box, complete with original plastic bag - the certificate is signed by Hugh Gibson the Chief Executive of Crown Derby, plus one other signature, I think probably a Shrovetide committe member. 8.5 inches in diameter the plate is produced to the highest standard, beautifully decorated in Imari-style pattern, and with detailed backstamp to rear with its number. This is a special piece with a royalty link, since it was made to commemorate the planned throwing up of the ball by HRH Prince Charles in 2001 - in fact this did not happen as the game was cancelled due to an outbreak of foot and mouth disease, but a decision was made to still release the plate.
