Advance School Inc (ASI) Voltmeter & Ammeter Utility Tester Together with Heathkit, Allied Knight-Kit documentation & Surveys (Extremely rare kit) In the sixties and seventies, Advance School Inc thrived together with several other correspondance electronic schools. They used many of Heath's current kits, such as their IG-102 RF generator or the IO-101 vectorscope which were relabeled Advance Schools. However, they also produced their own breed of simpler kits, such as the utility tester voltmeter (0 to 300 AC volts) and Ammeter (1 to 20 AC Amp!) being sold here. It is made of heavy steel and measure s 9¾ x 5¾ x 3¼ inches. I am seelling two unbuilt kits from this school. ( please see 2 Unbuilt ASI Ohmmeter Ammeter Steel Cases+Heathkit doc 330490942291 ) Nowadays, when you buy an unbuilt kit offered by one of the defunct schools for electronic technicians, you usually get one or more boxes of parts that you can't do much with. Typically, the proper documentation manuals may have been sold separately to someone else the week before. Of course, within the boxes, there will be missing parts, either because they were shipped separately with the next lesson or the student simply scattered them all over his home some 30 years ago. You may not have the faintest idea (nor does the seller for that matter) of what to do with some extra parts you got; because the darn manual you finally bought doesn't match or include that lesson's experiments!! All the while, because of the many absent parts, the main kit (oscilloscope, vtvm) which the seller advertised, would not be of much use even if you finally found the elusive instruction book! (usually books). The kits/courses which I am selling were obtained from a local institution. Yet, it took several years of Ebay shopping to complete the assembly instructions for them. I usually spend all the time needed to make the inventory of the parts and would remove what isn't part the kit's circuitry!! In the process, I literally have to follow the lessons, stop whenever parts or instructions are missing until such time when I can find and buy them! (some complicated jigsaw puzzle with extra pieces that don't belong) The assembly instructions for the voltmeter, ammeter are not available. Fortunately, the simple wiring is easily understood as shown in the photos. As you can see, it takes countless hours and years to research and complete these UNIQUE kits/courses so they are usable to the buyer. OBVIOUSLY, THESE METER'S PRODUCTION RUNS WERE VERY SMALL. THIS MAKE FOR OLDER AND RARER COLLECTOR'S ITEMS. I will include the copy of a letter to kit builders written by Heathkit engineer Ken Noles in the seventies. Also you may want to" take" the survey Heath sent to their new customers; you will find the questions packed with your new ASI kit. Heathkit pionnered the concept of electronic kits and their advices will help kit builders and collectors alike. Many kits used by the Electronics schools such as NTS, Bell & Howell, Devry, Canadian Teccart, CREI, CIE and even RCA were built by Heath. The eico cortina, allied knight kit, scott, bogen, lafayette, EMC, Conar or NRI kit lines which were competitors, have also long been discontinued. None of the boxes shown is included in this auction . The boxes or other kits in the background are shown to illustrate the past history of the electronic kit industry, and are not for sale.
