This auction is for 1 - 6.03 oz US San Francisco California mint poured 6.03 ounce silver bar.
A very nice and original rare United States silver bar / ingot. Poured and assayed at the US San Francisco Mint. Official Mint stamp/seal struck into the bar on the obverse showing MINT OF THE UNITED STATES AT SAN FRANCISCO. Many have contacted me on this bar, and here is what they and more research is saying about this bar: Bars were struck for the purpose of trading silver for currency as was the case before the recall of silver certificates in the 1960s. Very few were made as there was no demand for them at the time. Official weight stamped by the government is 6.03 Ounces and the official purity is .999.5 Pure. It's bar # is 6 from lot # 1661. Virtually all of these were melted down and poured into larger bars for the silver certificate redemption. A rare find. This bar is roughly the size of a Zippo lighter, and you can see the layers of the pour in this bar! These are hard to find and usually surface at larger coin auctions, and show upon Ebay from time to time. Similar bars have recently sold at auction in the $1600.00-$2300.00 area, and the purchasers had to pay a 10% buyers premium!
