Attributed to Philip Reinagle, London b. 1749-1833 Oil on Canvas, Hunt Scene of Hunters & Dogs Before Wilderness Landscape, c. late 18th CenturyItem # 120010OEY02 This precious work is attributed to the hand of Philip Reinagle, an English artist renowned for his exquisite hunt scenes, vast wilderness landscapes, animal portraits and work as a copyist of 17th Century Dutch Masters. Born to a Hungarian musician in Edinburgh in 1749, Reinagle moved to London in 1763 where he eventually died at age 84. While he produced a rather voluminous collection of works, his hunt scenes and animal portraits are some of the most highly prized works on the market. This painting is not signed by Reinagle, and is attributed to him on a small gilt plaque at the bottom of the frame reading "Philip Reinagle R.A. 1749-1833". The style and overall form are in close likeness, but being an attribution we do not guarantee the work as being of his hand. It is an absolutely gorgeous work, featuring a broad blue sky interlaced with wispy clouds peering through the heavily forested valley as a pair of hunters overlook the scene, seemingly making plans together for how the hunt will occur as two fine bird dogs wait anxiously. The setting is autumn, trees with a wonderful mix of auburn, brown, rust and greens as the weather is turning cooler and garb becomes read more
