Attributed to William Strickland (1788-1854) view of the second united states mint Unsigned, watercolor on paper, unframed. 7 1/4 x 10 1/2 in. PROVENANCE: Located on the corner of Chestnut and Juniper, the Second U.S. Mint building was opened in 1833 and demolished in 1907. The Greek Revival temple design of the Second U.S. Mint by Philadelphia architect William Strickland, was considered so satisfactory , he was commissioned to design branch mints in New Orleans and Charlotte, North Carolina.
