This is a good, used set of Audels Carpenters and Builders Guides, a complete set of 4 volumes printed from 1939-1941, copyright in 1923, 1939 by Theo Audel & Company. This set has leather like semi-soft cover. One of my favorite reference book sets for information on building and carpentry techniques from the 1920's. There are 100's of illustrations! The 1st volume is very good for information on tools of that days and how to care for them. Each book is 5" x 6.7" has a black leather like pressed cloth semi-hard boards, gold gilt spine lettering and red page edges. All are in good used condition, covers are clean, spines are tight and straight. Page edges are tipped in red, and some of the red faded to white in places. Pages are clean, no tears, or scribbles. End papers are clean. Good tight bindings. We note that volumes 1 & 2 have some buckling or are not flat, this is most likely from the climate where the owner lived and worked (Republic of Panama), but it could have had a heavy object set on it also. The pages are all clean, and don't seem to be affected by whatever affected the covers on the two volumes, the other covers are nice. We also note the past owner's signature in all volumes, and a small sticker on one page on vol. 2. The pages are fine, all text is legible.
A nice set of books covering tools, steel square, cutting tools, saw sharpening, nails, screws, joinery, furniture, math, drawings, estimating, house and roof framing, layout, foundations, doors, windows, stair building, mill work, painting, etc. Lots of good information, and plenty of illustrations!
