AUDIE MURPHY PAM BULL HALSEY TO HELL AND BACK PREMIER 8 x 10 black and white glossy photo of Audie and Pamela Murphy with Fleet Admiral Bill ( Bull ) Halsey. They were attending the premier of "To Hell And Back" in 1955. Halsey was promoted to Fleet Admiral in December 1945, and retired from active duty in March 1947. In the meantime, he served as best man at Commodore Markey's wedding to Hollywood actress Myrna Loy at San Pedro, California in January 1946. He was involved in failed efforts to preserve his former flagship USS Enterprise (CV-6) as a memorial in New York in the late forties and fifties. Halsey died on August 20, 1959 on Fishers Island, NY[12] and was interred in Arlington National Cemetery. Murphy played himself in the 1955 film version of his book with the same title, To Hell and Back In an actual war, while a unit may participate in numerous battles, the actual personnel changes, as men are killed, injured, or rotated out of the line. In "To Hell and Back" the Hollywood pattern is broken and the characters suffer death and injury as they did in real life, until by the end of the film only Murphy is left of the original members of his unit.
