Lithographed by J.T. Bowen. Type of Print Original hand colored lithograph. Size of Image Royal octavo size: App. 10 3/8" X 7". Condition In overall very good to excellent condition. Description We are pleased to offer a wonderful selection of beautiful original hand colored lithographs from the Royal Octavo edition of Quadrupeds Of North America , by John James Audubon, 1854 . Audubon's sons saw a need to reduce the size of the Imperial Folio edition of the Quadrupeds and beginning in 1849, the octavo edition was published in three volumes. Volume I was followed in 1851 with the second volume, and the final third volume was published in 1854. Between 1999 and 2004 sets were published in this first edition.At the time that Audubon began work on this reduced edition, John Bowen, the gentleman with whom he had collaborated on earlier works, was preoccupied so he employed the printing firm of Nagel and Weingaertner of New York."T is nothing perfect but primitiveness, and my efforts at copying nature, like all other things attempted by us mere mortals, fall short of the originals...-John James Audubon.Thank you for looking and please be sure and look
