For Sale : one of a famous series of figurines depicting dressage stances from "The Spanish Riding School " created in 1925 by artist, Professor Albin Dobrich.. The dressage stance is called “Piaffe ”.In equestrian terms, the Piaffe is part of an haut ecole/dressage exercise. Piaffing consists of trotting almost on the spot with a short pause in mid air between the diagonal steps. Designed by professor Albin Döbrich in 1925,this figure is impressive demonstration of the modelers craftsmanship. The model is supported on the horse’s front left and back right legs, and thus requires excellent balance. The rider in this figure is wearing a brown tailcoat. His hat is worn sidewaysand decorated with gold at the front. The rider is riding “ The Lipizzaner “ regarded as the oldest classic horse breed in Europe, bred since 1570 to supply the Hapsburg Empire with cavalry and show horses. The horse has wonderful detail - the hair, veins, stitching on the saddle, intricate reins… The bridle and reins have gold-plated buckles and the curb connector is also gilded. The shabrack is red with gold trim. All painting is done by hand of an experienced professional. Produced by “Augarten” which is the successor to the Royal Vienna Porcelain Factory - each figure is a miniature work of art in its own right. In contrast to machine-fabricated chinaware, every single step of production of these figures - from mixing the paste to finishing the wares - is carried out by hand. The single figure consists of more than 60 different single pieces in order to achieve the greatest degree of plasticity. The attention to detail and the craftsmanship involved in forming one figurine was a painstaking process but resulted in unsurpassed pieces of quality which have become highly collectible. The oval base has 2 inscriptions. One side reads "Hofburg Wien " and the other reads "Piaffe –Spanische Reitschule”. ". Hallmarked (base) by "Augarten Wien Austria" with Augarten blue shield/crown mark. Painters Number "28 " and number 1591 are inscribed on the base. "Made in Austria" inscription on the bottom of the base. It has faint “ Döbrich” inscription on the base next to the tail of the horse. Date of manufacture : First half of 20-th century. Typical Art –Deco perioud style piece ,it shows the combination of different geometrical forms in one composition. Dimentions : about 23,5 cm high and 15,5 cm wide at the base/ 7 cm deep. Condition: The figure has some flaws.. Unfortunately, the horse’s tail was previously broken and professionally repaired . The other possible damage – one corner(the right one) of his hat most probably was restored too, though its very hard to see it , and only if one knows it was broken.. All faults shown on the photos.
