Acquired from an estate and selling with no reserve. This listing is for an Autographed Civil War Photo of 51st OVI Soldier. Standing half length albumen portrait of young Union soldier, autographed on lower front in period ink with "Yours Mutchly Charles R. Leslie." with finely hand tinted face and tie. Reverse with Imprint of Charles Hebel, Louisville, Ky. And period inked inscription reading "Steubeville Ohio Co. A 51st O.V.V.I." Charles enlisted at the age of 26 on Sept. 7, 1861 in Co. A, 51st OVI, and was discharged for disability on June 5, 1865. The 51st Ohio Vol. Infantry was organized at Camp Meigs in Oct. of 1861. The Regiment was involved in several small skirmishes in Kentucky, but saw their first major battle during the fall of '62 when they met and defeated CSA Gen. Wheelers Cavalry near Dobson's Ferry, Tenn. Later engagements included Stone River, Ringgold, where they again met and defeated Wheelers Cavaklry, Chickamauga, Lookout Mtn., Roseville gap, through Missionary Ridge. After reenlistment and furlough they entered the Atlanta campaign and were engaged at Resaca, Kennesaw Mtn., capture of Atlanta, Jonesboro, Lovejoy Station, Franklin and Nashville, after which they were ordered to Texas and mustered out on Oct. 3, 1865.
