Australia Green Chrysoprase Rough Rock Cabbing Stone

This material, known as Chrysoprase, comes from Australia. The apple green color is stupendous! The material is slightly translucent, but does have inclusions.

The most valuable variety of chalcedony (a form of quartz) Chrysoprase , also spelled chrysophrase, contains small quantities of nickel which is responsible for its green color. It is cryptocrystalline, which means that it is composed of very fine crystals that cannot be seen as distinct particles under normal magnification.

The word chrysoprase comes from the Greek chrysos meaning 'gold' and prason , meaning 'leek'.

Chrysoprase was used by the Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans in ancient times in ornamental objects and jewelry. It was believed to have the power to turn the wearer invisible. Prussia's Frederick the Great commissioned two tables made of Chrysoprase. Chrysoprase is mentioned in the Bible and is considered to be the tenth in the walls of the heavenly Jerusalem .

Due to its rarity and beautiful green color, Chrysoprase is one of the most prized varieties of quartz. Higher quality specimens often rival fine jade, for which it is sometimes mistaken.

This piece of rough is shown wet. It is 3 inches long, by more than 2 inches deep and about 1 inch thick. It is shown wet in the first 2 pictures and it weighs 4 ounces. #1

Metaphysical Properties : Chrysoprase is said to speed the healing of any wound. Carry a piece in your pocket or sleep with it next to your bed! It is also said to clarify problems and to cure restlessness.
