This was my grandfathers sword and was passed down to me. It has been in my possession over thirty years. I remember it hanging in my grandfathers basement as a child. My research of this item was from differet sites that indicate this to be a Austrian German Heavy Cavalry Dragoon Sword I am ASSUMING ( DUE YOUR DUE DILIGENCE ). It has not been cleaned or restored in any way by me. The handle is wood with the top layer worn away that must have been leather possibly once covering it (A little bit left on it). The guard is perfect. There are two splits in the grip (horizontally) on ONE side and one is larger than the other. On the other side very minor split in wood (SEE PHOTO). The blade is perfect except for light staining,discoloration. The scabbard is free of any indentations except for a little rust at bottom of scabbard and pitting on the scabbard. Nothing major. Also scabbard has TWO rings 9 1/4 inches apart and 2 inches from the nipples on the to of the scabbard. The scabbard has scratches in it and looks like the original finish has faded with the years.The only numbers or letters I see are on the blade marked GF with a symbol to the right. I will take as many pictures as possible for a good viewing. Please dont bid on this item if you dont know anything about SWORDS! I can only tell you what I see and I am not a expert. Please examine the PHOTOS before bidding very carefully. My overall opinion of this sword is Very Good. Seems to have normal wear and tear and no major indentations or warping. A good cleanup will really show off this items true potential and history. A great conversation piece for collectors! My first couple of listings are family possesions. The Dimensions are as follows; Lenth of sword in Scabbard 43 1/4 " Lenght of Scabbard 37 3/8" Lenght of Handle w/Blade 42 3/4" Lenght of Blade 36" Blade Height 1 1/4" The measurements are from end to end on this item and are actual. I am not sure if this is the PROPER way to measure it but these a re actual.
