Austria, historically, constitutes one of the original centers of reverse glass painting and so this is a very representative piece of Austrian folk art. Let's get the measurements out of the way, this is a small piece, measures ca 7" x 7 3/4", and very light - its weight it close, but under 1/2 lb. It is a very nice image, reverse painted on glass, of four Austrian girls in folk costumes dancing around the maypole. All four costumes are different, there is a limited number of gold accents in the painting, and the piece is signed, but I cannot read the signature, FLO? The painting is backed with paper/cardboard with rudimentary sketch of the mountains or the sky. The back of the cardboard bears a handwritten number 22 and "Maibaum" - maypole in English. The frame is pine (?) wood, it looks like its different sections are nailed together, see pictures. CONDITION OF THE PIECE: The reverse glass painting itself in a very good condition. Paper/cardboard backing of the glass painting must have gotten wet at one time and is now puckered, see picture. Wooden frame shows some soiling, especially in the corners, see photos.
