This is a Native American Indian Small rawhide Rattle created by Irene Morgan, Navajo. The rattle is completely handmade with natural materials (Forgive the white marks on the painted portion of the rattle. It easily reflects the light). The head of the rattle is made of rawhide formed in two halves and sewn together around the center using sinew. Any light marks are just reflections. Has small pebbles inside to make the rattle sound. It is then painted with a colorful, exotic "Kokopelli" design. The Kokopelli or Fluteplayer is a very ancient symbol. Kokopelli would dance through the villages, playing his flute to intice the maidens to follow him. He would then dance away, followed by the maidens, to his chosen destination. The wooden handle is painted with a zigzag and dot design. A metal bead and flattened cone which are attached to the wooden handle hold genuine horsehair. Has a braided sinew hanger at the bottom. It is threaded through a drilled hole in the wood. Measures 6 1/2" long from top of the rattle to the bottom of the handle including the braided hanger. Measures 5" in circumference (All around the center portion) at the widest part.
