You are bidding on a beautiful and rare Sassanian Archer's ring excavated in Iran with shards of pottery (dated about 300AD) and other artifacts. It is in impressive condition considering its age being found in an arid region. This impressive antiquity boasts inscribed ornate details with a beautifully contoured front; it is the rarest of its kind we have encountered. Most archer rings of this period were quite ornate such as this. Interestingly, except in ancient China, most archer rings took the same form and shape for centuries. Museums have some examples of porcelain one's with gemstones embedded and t are few gold examples existing in museums located in the Middle East. This ring has quite the impressive appearance. Because this ring was fairly encrusted with a thick green patina, t exists some pitting, and degradation typical of archaeological finds. It is in astoundingly good shape considering the conditions of discovery (please see photo of ring prior to cleaning). This ring has been heavily cleaned and polished by a professional to reveal its original lustre just as it was during Caesar's reign; yet is some patina still remains, as we do not want to jeopardize its integrity with further cleaning. Archer's rings have a unique history of their own being the only functional jewellery to make it into fashion during later days. Archer rings were used as a tool to assist the archer in their trade and later became more of a symbol of identity and wealth the less used the ring was. It is unfortunate that archer ring designs do not still exist, as modern jewllery is mainly production line lacking in imagination and character. This ring was actually a tool and to see such finite inscriptions upon it yields more interest into who wore it. This rare and impressive ring was discovered in Iran.
