This colorful 1 liter stein is made by R. Merkelbach. Bottom is incised with the 6 pointed star & RM inside it. That marking was used from 1882 to 1933. Also marked with the mold # 743 on the bottom. Stein is just under 11" tall, 4 1/2" wide on the bottom. Has a very elaborate thumblift, & lid is intricately designed. 5 ring hinge is solid & lid fits flush on top of stein. Strap is a little loose on the handle. The scene on the stein shows a maiden in the woods & I think her lover is in a boat on the water with a trumpet, probably calling for her or making music for her. T is a castle in the background. German sayings are, "Zum Kussen zwei Zum Trinken drei" on back of right side. (I think it means when you kiss you get thirsty & drink the stein empty) Other side says, "Zum Singen vier das lob ich mir" (which I think means, "When we sing, we love more"). One of the red bands has a bit of missing color. 4 felt cushions on the bottom. NO CRACKS, CHIPS OR DENTS ON THIS STEIN.
