Great for collectors and music lovers alike! Own a Piece of Rock and Roll History
Be the first to own an authentic commissioned painted door from a childhood home of Jim Morrison. While dismantling the home, Triangle Development Company, builder of the Island View Condominiums carefully preserved the doors and other artifacts to memorialize the late singer songwriter while benefiting local charitable organizations. The Largo Cultural Center is proud to introduce the series and be the first to auction off the "Break on Through Door" painted by famous Clearwater artist, Doug Wright.
James Douglas Morrison (8 December 1943-3 July 1971) was an American singer, songwriter, and poet. He was best known as the lead singer and lyricist of the popular American rock band "The Doors", and is considered to be one of the most charismatic front men in the history of rock music. Jim lived from 1944-1947 and from 1961-1963 with his grandparents at 314 N. Osceola Ave, Clearwater, Florida. During 1961-1963, he attended St. Petersburg Junior College. The "Break on Through Door" was taken from the hallway of his grandparents house when dismantled in 2005. See photo of the door before the house was dismantled.
Morrison's death at the age of 27 in Paris stunned his fans; the circumstances of his death and secret burial have been the subject of endless rumors and play a significant part of the mystique that continues to surround him. The cemetery in which Morrison is buried receives 1.5 million visitors a year, a large number of them attributed to Morrison. Morrison's recordings still go double platinum (over 2 million sold) every year.
