Up for auction is a set of 4 Mies Van Der Rohe BRNO chairs produced by Knoll. They are made of stainless steel and are HEAVY. Upholstered in old Knoll bright blue fabric they could be used as is but really should be redone due to some fading and hardening of foam.
These are NOT reproductions. Markings: 1 chair has Gummed label affixed tounderside of seat pad: "KNOLL ASSOCIATES INC. / 320 PARK AVENUE, N.Y."with Knoll logo in red to right. 1 chair has standard upholstery label sewn onto underside of pad: "DO NOT REMOVE THIS TAG / UNDER PENALTY OF LAW / ALL NEW MATERIAL CONSISTING OF / 100% LATEX FOAM RUBBER / REGISTRY NO.PA. 20628 / This article is made in compliance with an act of: Dist. of Col. approved July 3, 1926; Kansas approved March 1923; Minn. approved April 24, 1929; New Jersey revised Statues 26:10-6 to 18. La. Act. Mass.G.L.Sec.270, Chap.B4. / (opposite is:) Certification is made that the materials in this article are described in accordance with the law. / SOLD BY (blank space) / Date of delivery (blank space) / DISTRIBUTED BY / KNOLL ASSOCIATES / 320 Park Ave. New York, N.Y." 2 chairs are unmarked but are clearly the same as the above 2. Original arm rests are soiled but have been saved because of the value of the chairs. We don't have the screws for the armrests but have contacted Knoll to try and get replacement screws. This minimalist design is a classic of modernist furniture and a great investment. Condition of steel is pretty good for its' age, just needs a cleaning. excellent, sturdy and heavy construction, structurally perfect. Bid is for all 4 chairs.
