This Dragon Box is wonderful! The motifs on the body are superb! The cinnabar deep carved! This is called Sung style in Chinese art. The original design is dates back to the Sung dynasty.

This is authentic cinnabar. This is not a new piece or a synthetic copy.

The Sung Dragon is cinnabar over yellow bronze. The carving is wonderful and extremely deep. This is extremely hard to build lacquer on and extremely hard to carve!! A very difficult type of cinnabar!

T are many imitation forms of lacquer wares. T echnology has learned to cut all the corners of the old process and imitate antiques. Over my years in China, I have seen fake cinnabar come along way! This auction is for real cinnabar lacquer ware. The pictures can be super sized .

The old art of real carved lacquer is many times misunderstood. Until one understands how many days of preparation it takes for the lacquer body prior to caving - one can not have an appreciation for lacquer ware. The Master who creates an item of fine lacquer ware must be the crème de la crème of carvers. It is not an art that leaves room for error. The Master carver cannot miss by 1/16 of an inch.

In the old art of lacquer ware, the natural lacquer from the Lac Tree is applied in hundreds of thin layers. Each layer must dry for at least 24 hours before applying the next coat.

The carving is judged by the fine - deep - clear cut and pattern. Old Masters carve from weeks to years depending on the cinnabar size and depth of design.

Cinnabar is the color for this particular carved lacquer. The coloring comes from the mineral cinnabar not to be misunderstood for carved lacquerware art in general. The color is hard to capture in pictures....the color is a deeper red than pictures indicate.

The Dragon Box is a very unique. Traditional Cinnabar is no longer being made and has not been for many years.

The Dragon Box has been in the achieves and never used. It is in mint condition! T is a reserve on this auction way below the actual value.

Cinnabar such as this piece will be returned to China this year for the value in China surpasses the Western market of appreciation. The cinnabar belonged to a representative of the Beijing Government.

The Dragon Box measures overall approx 6-1/2" long, 6" high and approx 4-1/2"wide. A very collectible Chinese art!!
