from 1955 these Nature series were entered into the 1956 Grand Prix Biennale Venezia - i.e. Venice Biennal in 1956

During the early stage of his career,
Munakata worked exclusively on black-and-white prints.

He also did others from this series including:
Wabisuke no Saku . . . Camellias i.e. flowers
Rigan no Saku . . . Carp i.e. fish
Kaede Usagi no Saku . . . - Maple and Hares - i.e. Rabbits

Somehow can't find the info now what I believe the others shown are from 1955 (60 cm 61 cm) ? Image size sheet size?

I recently found out the artists did prints on order basis, so I'm sure one explaination for the scarcity of this and some other of his prints. Since his Budda images were more popular and some quit simple works they were obviously easier to carve & print. I don't how many he did of this edition but honestly believe it was a very small number and very limited. Look closely and you can see the blue from the inks just about identical to the one on the Aomori site mentioned above

Signed in pencil in Japanese Shiko and in 'romaji' ?, i.e. Roman letters? Munakata, with the pine needle? symbol, sealed? Munakata.

Not as yellowed as appears in photo!

Provenance: Possibly the artist: I was told Previous Oner's Dad Bought This In Japan after the war and was given to him. I'm not a print art expert, or have I had anything by this artist before. This is described from what I can gather from the web. I will answer any questions I can but ( I do not reply to use the yellow button, if you hide your email address.) 1 small chip gone from frame edge at bottom. Ask questions. Sale Final Item sent with frame but NO glass. As found and pictured. VG+ to Excellent except as noted. Not as yellowed as appears. Laid down has FULL MARGINS. Appears mat add about 4? places to margin. Could be heated to loosen the fixative to remove the mat. The image is overall nice and bright, may be light toning and t NO glass sent. NO FRAME OR GLASS INT'L
