THIS AUTHENTIC 4.5'' IRON ROMAN CRUCIFIXION NAIL, USED BY THE ROMAN EMPIRE, WAS MANUFACTURED BETWEEN 100 BC-100AD. This authentic piece was found in the ground and cleaned-t is a protective rust patina that has protected it from the elements for nearly 2000 years! The Romans used crucifixion as a cruel and humiliating means of punishment. Pontius Pilate, Rome's governor, ordered Jesus Christ's crucifixion after His arrest in the middle of the night during the feast of Passover. Making his way down the slow and arduous path, Jesus bore a horizontal crossbeam on his shoulders. Probably the same centurion who kept watch over the place of judgement supervised as Jesus' arms were positioned outright on the cross. A carnifix serarum, or flesh nailer, pierced each of his hands while one nail pierced his overlapping feet. It was many years later when Rome's first Christian emperor, Constantine, abolished crucifixion as a form of Roman punishment. It is my humble belief that iron nails were used on the hands or wrists and the larger bronze nails used on the feet. This grim piece of our world's history was probably never used-its' quality does not seem so. It is, however, authentic, and extremely rare in this condition. This piece is exactly what you will recieve. It comes with a certificate of authenticity and will increase in value
