Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh was demolished on February 11, 2001. For fans of Pittsburgh sports, here are some rare items related to the end of the proud history of Three Rivers Stadium.· Rare and hard to find Three Rivers Stadium banner celebrating the three decades of the Steelers play there (1970-2000). This was purchased on next to last Steelers game in Three Rivers gift shop, and was the last one in the store. One sided, so a banner, not a flag. Size is approx 26" x 40". · Four inch by four inch patch of authentic artificial turf from Three Rivers, purchased at the Three Rivers sale at Civic Arena in 2000. Pic is of another piece, so turf sent will be larger piece. · Pittsburgh Post Gazette from Monday October 2, 2000 featuring cover story of the last Pittsburgh Pirates game there the day before. Unfortunately, Sports Section is not available. · Pittsburgh Post Gazette from Sunday December 17, 2000 featuring cover story of the last Steelers game at Three Rivers. Includes Special Souvenier Edition with information about the history of Three Rivers, including reprint of the column on first Steelers game there on September 20, 1970 (lost to Houston Oilers 19-7).
