The Country Music Encyclopedia by Melvin Shestack, 1974 This autographed book is a one of a kind collector’s encyclopedia covering the earliest development of country music – from honkey-tonk to bluegrass – from the 1920’s to the 1970’s. It includes over 150 photographs and more than 200 entries describing the history of country music and its founding legends. The encyclopedia also includes a “discography,” which lists album titles that are representative of each artist’s work. The encyclopedia was written by Melvin Shestack, a former editor of Saturday Evening Post, producer for CBS News and a contributing editor of Country Music magazine. The book is in very good condition with a gently-worn dust jacket. It was owned by a country music fan that had the book/pictures personally signed by many of the stars whose stories are chronicled in the encyclopedia. The autographs were gathered during 1974-1975. It is autographed by Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Tammy Wynette, Kitty Wells and 24 other country legends, including: Roy Acuff - Roy Clark - Billy “Crash” Craddock - Roy Drusky - Barbara Fairchild - Jack Greene - Merle Haggard - Freddie Hart - Ferlin Huskey -Stonewall Jackson - Lonzo and Oscar - Bob Luman - O.
