Original hand signed letter containing state seals of Arkansas - 1939. Governor at time was Carl E. Bailey who, before he was elected governor, was Arkansas Attorney General. In 1936 he was offered a $50,000 bribe by the infamous gangster Lucky Luciano. Luciano had been apprehended in Hot Springs and was scheduled for extradition to New York. Bailey refused the bribe although he could easily have accepted without much repercussion. The piece is framed and measures 8x11 inches. The two large gold seals are embossed and measure 3 1/4 inches each. This piece was written to, and sent to my fathers good friend at the time.....Charles Dunlap. He was a prominent fingerprint expert in the Philadelphia area and an avid autograph collector. In 1950 he gave this and hundreds of other original autographs and photos to my father. I have had this rare piece of history for over 50 years.
