Autunite, "Gummite" etc. - Ruggles Grafton NH 1940-60 "Thumbnail" - Smaller Piece - VERY Fluorescent under Short & Long Range UV Please note - pictures were taken when it was a whole piece (more of a pyrimid) at 2.7 grams - it has since split into two pieces - flatened it out a bit. These are certain everyday items which have been specifically approved for distribution and may be possessed by members of the general public without a license. These include watches, clocks and other timekeeping of navigational devices, unrefined ores , and smoke detectors. This item is exempt from licensing by the NRC - as per 10 CFR 40.13(b). Yes, this item is perfectly legal to own (by any law of: US Federal, Canada and US State - or EBay Policy) to sell and transport, as long as the Seller on EBay tells you up-front about the hazard and also posts how he/she will properly ship the item in order to be compliant with any regulation. As with all mineral samples, a possible hazard exists. Buyers should be aware of the elemental composition of a sample and understand any safety concerns. Uranium ore contains low level radioactivity. Precautions should be taken to protect yourself from this potential hazard. It is best to; keep this sample bagged, minimize handling, wash your hands after handling and avoid internal uptake of the material. Basically, use common sense - and good laboratory practices. This item is sold as a Scientific and Educational Mineral Sample - for collecting and display only - and is not intended to be used for other purposes. This item falls under the category or Un-Refined Ore - and as such - is not an EBay prohibited HAZMAT - as it is allowed in shipments (with minimal regulations) - as per US DOT 49 CFR 173.421 - under the shipping name UN2910 Radioactive Material Excepted Package, Limited Quantity of Material - (NOTE: The A1 and A2 values for unrefined ore is unlimited ), and will be shipped in accordance with United States Postal Circular USPS 52. The package will conform to the conditions and limitations specified in the regulations. All mineral shipments are shipped with careful packaging/bagging of the sample and then the packaged sample is suspended in the center of a strong/tight corrugated box - which is labeled UN2910 - with an outside package surface GM reading of less than 0.5 mR/hr and with no GM reading at one meter. The exterior of the package will also be 'wipe tested' to confirm that t is no removable contamination on the exterior of the box - in accordance with 49 CFR Sec. 173.443 . The person performing the packaging has been, and is currently trained in accordance with 49 CFR 172 Subpart H & IATA/ICAO . Ruggles Quarry - Autunite, "Gummite" etc. Possibly: Uraninite, Schoepite, Gummite, or other Uranium Mineral The Yellow is Autunite, The Orange is "Gummite" - this rock has much more YELLOW and is a much brighter fluorescent under UV - which as always, UV is sometimes fuzzy and hard to capture with the camera. 3/4 x 1/2 x 1/2 Inches Was 2.7 grams is now 2.2 and 0.4+ grams - THUMBNAIL Though the shape on this piece is/was more triangular / with slight pyramid - then the shape of a rectangle PICTURES WERE TAKEN WHEN IT WAS STILL ONE PIECE - IT JUST SPLIT A BIT OFF TONIGHT.. NOW TWO PIECES - TOP PYRAMID BROKE OFF. It might be subject to brittle ness - or I should just avoid sitting on it...opps.
