This is a very nice and quite interesting set of nine original black and white photographs, circa 1930s-1940s, depicting the efforts of the East Avon Fire Department and some of its Firemen on the scene of a large house fire in the Avon, New York area, amid the hoses, ladders, firetrucks, and various other personnel and citizens standing by, as they attempted to put down a blazing fire at a rather large and nicely built old house ....t are several images which show portions of their trucks, and a few great shots of one or another weary fireman as he surveys the situation...one of the images has a group of men standing in observance of the action, and the back of his vintage jacket is lettered with the phrase: 9 Old Men, which I'm unfortunately unable to explain the significance of at this time, but I'll keep looking for information to add later on if at all possible. Another of the photos (with the white hatted Firechief staring out directly into the camera) has some additional information, actually a statement or quote, written on the reverse side in pencil: "And ye do well to call him Chief"-The Reverend Harold Eslee (I'm not sure about the spelling t, Chief, Avon Fire Department....the photographs are each stamped on the reverse side: PHOTOGRAPH BY NORMAN MILLER, AVON, N.
