AWESOME 19TH CENTURY OR EARLIER TERRA COTTA GARDEN URNS PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO READ MY POLICIES BELOW REGARDING PAYMENTS, SHIPPING AND INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS] Very rare matched pair of Terra cotta garden urns dating from at least the 19th century though most likely much earlier. I have tried for months to identify the mark impressed into the inside bottom of each urn without any clues. I am in hopes of someone viewing this listing who will know precisely what this mark is and possibly relate the info to me as I am very interested in the origins of these wonderful urns. Each urn measures 13 inches tall, 17 inches at their widest point with the opening being 12 inches in diameter. The intricate scene around the middle in deep relief tells a story which took place 2 millennia ago regarding Joseph, Mary and the infant Jesus' trip to Egypt to flee impending danger from King Herod. The script at the base is in a language which I have not been able to identify either reads- HERODES OVODXPM PDEREUOLE S.T MEL CHIOR CASPAR BALTASAR T. T is also an impressed number 1082 on the rim of each. The condition of the 1st urn is very good with a tight hairline which is watertight and a few chips to the base.
