Up for bid is an awesome image of a Union soldier seated next to stacked muskets. The subject was photographed in an interesting "full length" seated position that I don't believe I've ever seen before. With his hand on his musket, our man is clad in a standard Union frock, with the usual leather accoutrements. His forage cap is interesting as he has a feather tucked into the band and a company letter "K" affixed to the underside of the visor. The image is all about those stacked muskets, however. Check out the red-tinted tassel hanging between them. The backdrop is plain, and the soldier's identity is unknown. The image originated in Illinois, which might be a clue. Very cool image. This one is a bit of a sacrifice for me. The image - a 1/6th plate ruby ambrotype - is sharp and clear, with good contrast. However, the subject is 'framed' by some solarization. Take a look at my photos and you'll see what I mean. I think this is a killer piece despite the solarization. My pictures tell the tale and have not been altered in any way. Please look carefully as I go though the effort of trying to get photos that accurately reflect how the image looks in hand. What you see is what you get. Image is 100% original.
