's an interesting vintage big belt knife and sheath. Sturdy double edged steel blade measures 11" or 28cm long. Overall length is 16" or 41 cm. It is 1-1/2" wide at guard. Blade has been made from an old file and has no markings. Crossguard is iron. The grips are horn slabs secured to tang by means of 3 iron rivets. A strip of sheet brass encases the sides and top of the handle. The scabbard consists of brown leather over a wood core. "X's" are embossed into the front side of the sheath. The fittings are brass. Top fitting has a punched double cross (cross of Lorraine?) on the front and 2 crosses on the reverse. Bottom sheath fitting has a decoration in the shape of a fleur de lay. Scratched into brass backstrap is the word "ANNO" and 1758". This is faint and difficult to photograph. I'm guessing that this knife is European in origin, perhaps French due to the designs on the sheath. The blade has no nicks, rust, or repairs and still retains a good edge. Grip and guard are solid and tight. Thanks for looking! U.S. BUYERS: INSURANCE AND DELIVERY CONFIRMATION IS INCLUDED IN SHIPPING COST. INTERNATIONAL BUYERS: ACTUAL SHIPPING COSTS WILL BE CHARGED.
