This is a truly splendid and extremely rare inkwell from the french Art deco period, made around 1930 +/-. The inkwell has a beautiful, polished marble base with a black tone with many yellow and orange veinings in it. On the right side is a clock fixed, made by the renowned German clock company "Europa". The dial face is made out of white, enamaled metal. The clock has an eight day movement and runs on seven jewels. The clock has a solide brass metal boards movement and a alarm function. The clock was revised by a professional clockmaker and keeps the time accurately. On the left side is a lion figurine based, below it has the inscription: "Aux defenseurs de Belfort 1870-71". On the right side is also a pencil holder, made out of black-colored bakelite. The inkwell in excellent, used condition and shows only minimal signs of age. The lion figurine shows on the back on some parts a loss of the brass-plate (see pictures below). The entire ensemble is free from any damage. The max. length of the inkwell is 10.6" (27 cm). The depth of the marble base is 4.7" (12 cm). The diameter of the clock is 4.7" (12 cm). The lion measures 5.1" x 3.5" x 1.6" (13 x 9 x 4 cm). This is a 100 % original inkwell from the french Art deco period. No reproduction!! You will find more authentic Art deco objects among my other sellings on ebay. I'm willing read more
