TRILOBITE EXCELLENT CLASSIC 6" DROTOPS BEDROOM EYES! Morocco - F #565 ... This auction features an excellent, large (6" or ~15 cm) Phacopid,,, Drotops megalomanicus trilobite from the famous Paleozoic limestone formations at Mt. Issamour near Fzoui, Morocco. This lab prepped, fully inflated trilobite has that classic Phacops // Drotops look! It is getting extremely difficult to find these large Devonian Period trilobites prepped to this quality. I look for three things: (1) it must be real (some are simply glued to the limestone to appear as though they have been excavated), (2) it should have most of the compound eyes in place (a sloppy workman will destroy the little suction cup shaped lenses, and (3) it must have some of the tubercules showing on the carapice from the glabella on the cephalon (head) through the thorax and back to the end of the pygidium. This Drotops has the cephalon separating from the thorax,,, but somehow that adds to the mystic of the fossil. It has almost no restoration (less than 5%; it has a micron thick black coating to even out the color). THE EYES ARE THE BEST I SAW AT THE TUCSON SHOW!! Check out the pics! This fossil is on a large naturally chiseled base; and so it will display beautifully for the geologist or lover of ancient natural history. The photos say it all! Low starting price and NO reserve!
