AXELROD" THE DOG FLYING A GASOLINE SERVICE STATION MASCOT - 1960s. 16"x7". Plush stuffed toy dog with felt accents. Great likeness of the "FLYING A WORRY DOG". AXELROD, a droopy-faced bassett hound, was the nationwide mascot for Flying A Gas Service Stations. Their company motto was - "When it comes to your car... ooooh, do we worry!" As a sponsor for the New York Yankees baseball team, Axelrod appeared on many Yankee scorecards of the era. The dog still has the original red ribbon bow around his neck. Attached to the ribbon is a 5" white fabric "name tag" ribbon stating "AXELROD" in bold red letters. T is a 1" hairline tear on this ribbon, touching the OD of AXELROD. It has been neatly repaired with archival tape from behind. This defect does not detract greatly from the toy's overall visual appeal. It is highly unnoticeable. Minor age discoloration of fur. The dog was obviously well preserved and shows it. An exceptionally SCARCE item with great visual appeal for the discriminating ADVERTISING MASCOT and/or CHARACTER TOY & DOLL enthusiast. On a condition code scale of 1 to 10, the above listed item(s) rated - (8).
