Aymara Native American Indian Figa Stone Fetish, Amulet This is a wonderful authentic stone fetish, also called illa, representing la mano figa from the Aymara culture of South America. Figa amulets, found throughout South America, have ancient European origins reflective of the colonial influence but melded into South American spirituality in the "new world". The protective talisman was carved from huamanga, an alabaster stone readily found in the Andes. The carved amulet has deposits of untu, or spiritual fat from the male llama's chest, which is ceremonially rubbed into amulets and ritual objects, as well as participant's faces and hands. The amulet doesn't stand as it is meant to be carried by the owner. The carving is beautifully stylized and has a great patina and wear from the years - a wonderful treasure! Measurement: approx. 2 1/3 " long Nomad's Journey offers collectors fine devotional and ethnographic art and antiquities from Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
