Up for auction is a nicely carved FOX fetish by Lena Boone, considered to be one of the more prominent and prolific carvers at Zuni. This character measures 3 inches from the tip of his nose to the end of his bushy tail. He's about 1/2 inch wide and a little over an inch tall. It is carved from azurite.

This is a Native American hand-carved item and comes from the Zuni Pueblo in northern New Mexico.

In Zuni tradition, each animal is believed to have innt powers or qualities that may aid the owner of a fetish carved in the image of that animal. The fox symbolizes camouflage, the ability to meld into one's surroundings and be unnoticed.
