The kukri style knife you are currently viewing has an overall length of 13" with a 8" satin finished O-1 tool steel blade. The blade was flat ground from 1/4" thick barstock and heat treated to 59-61 Rockwell C hardness. O-1 tool steel is a high performance carbon steel with nearly double the impact resistance of 440C stainless. Higher impact resistance allows me to heat treat the blade to very high hardness levels (higher hardness = better edge retention) without worrying about the blade shattering under heavy use. The blade has been marquenched and double tempered to ensure maximum performance. The handle was crafted from sanded black linen micarta with white vulcanized fiber spacers for a secure, durable grip. The handle scales are secured to the tang with 1/4" hollow brass pins. The blade features a 5.25" saw back with stagger ground teeth for fast, aggressive cutting. The knife will be sharpened to a razor's edge before shipping. The sheath was hand tooled and hand stitched from 7-8 ounce leather and dyed dark brown. A welt has been sewn into the seam to prevent the knife from cutting the stitching when it is drawn from the sheath. I handcraft all my knives and sheaths in my shop at the foot of the Rocky Mountains in Idaho . I feel that a knife is first and foremost a tool. The blade must cut well and the handle must fit well in the hand. All my knives are designed to first, meet these two requirements and second, to look great doing it.
