Petrified Wood replaced by Copper (Chalcocite) - Location: West Central Texas. This is from a Permian formation. This is a very unique specimen of petrified wood that has been replaced by the copper mineral chalcocite. This type of wood is very rare and unusual. The interior chalcocite is a black color but t is a greenish and/or bluish color on the surface which is from a surface coating of malachite and/or azurite.
