This auction is for a USED B7971 big neon tube clock. TUBESARE NOT INCLUDED. In the late 70’s I bought several Burroughs 7971 alphanumeric display tubes and sockets on Canal St. in NYC. I was told they were used on the New York Stock Exchange. At the time I had no way to drive them and insufficient knowledge to build something. In the early 80’s I bought a used Heathkit clock that used neon displays at a flea market. The displays did not work so I wired the display wires to a connector on the back of the case. The connector was soldered to a ribbon cable. The cable was attached to a Plexiglas frame holding 6 sockets. Four of the sockets have holes for a smaller diameter tube but there are no contacts in those holes. The Heathkit clock drives the tubes as 7 segment displays and does not use the diagonal segments or the underline segment below the digit. This clock worked for many years, and still worked when I removed the tubes last year to use in a new clock I built using smart sockets. I am offering this thinking someone can use it to quickly put together a clock to use B7971 tubes they may have. I do not have any more tubes or sockets to sell. The Plexiglas base and cover are relatively crude with minor chips, cracks, and glue bubbles at the joints, but they are functional. There are exposed solder joints on the back of the
