Up for auction as one lot are the following newspapers: The Des Moines Register dated Sept 7, 1927 sports section only (4 pgs.) with a nice photo of Babe Ruth and article regarding him tying his 1926 mark of 47 home runs. Edge tears at top and light creases lower left corner, otherwise nice. Fargo Forum dated Sept 30, 1927 sports section only. Nice sports page article (no photo) on Babe Ruth tying the 1921 home run record with 59. Binding holes left edge. Lexington Leader dated Oct 4, 1928 complete paper. Nice front page headline (Yankees Win World Series Opener) with photos of Babe Ruth and others. Removed from a bound volume (reflected along left edge) otherwise in nice shape. The Call Bulletin dated Oct 1, 1932 appears to be complete. Nice front page headline “ Ruth ’s Homer Scores Three Runs” with article on the third game of the World Series (no photos). This is the game of the “Called Shot” which supposedly occurred in the 5 th inning when the Babe gestured and hit his second home run of the game. This article only covers the first two innings probably because the paper went to print while the game was in progress. It is unique though that it was published the same day as the game was played and not the next day as would be the norm. Staining along right edge, small edge tears otherwise nice. The Call dated Jan 8, 1920 read more
