From the renowned Philadelphia firm of Bailey & Company. Founded in 1832 by Bailey & Kitchen. Known for both creative design and the highest quality of finish detail. Also, the first firm in America to offer both guaranteed sterling (925), and 900 coin silverwares. Bailey's 900 standard for coin was introduced in 1852. Used only until 1858. Given such limited production, examples bearing their "eagle, shield and "U" guarantee, such as this elegant ewer, are eagerly sought by collectors. The wine ewer beautifully executed in raised urn form. Sharp cut shoulder to long, softly flared neck. Thick, raised beaded trim in five places, including shoulder base and upper rim.
