This listing is for a unique and very old Engineering Drafting Set made by C. Baker, 244 High Holborn, London. My research on this company finds them to be a British Scientific Instrument Manufacturer that made microscopes, levels, rules and other scientific instruments like this engineering drafting set. "Charles Baker is recorded in Clifton, Gloria Directory of British Scientific Instrument Makers 1550-1851 as working from 244 High Holborn, London 1851-1899.", so it is my guess these Victorian instruments were made Circa 1880. The set is in a wood box with front lock (no key) with two levels. The box is about 8" wide x 6" deep x 2" tall. It is my guess these instruments were made to order as this box has a very thin plaque on the top which has the name "P. D. Teng". The tag is worn but the instruments are also engraved with the initials P.D.T. Inside the box you find some real marvels such as the ivory protractor and scale built in one. This piece is in super condition with no chips on the edge and is made beveled and at most 1/8" thick at the widest part. The rule is also very thin and made with precision. The instruments that are hinged are a marvel as the hinges are micro thin and are perfectly machined. I am amazed as the quality of the pieces. There are a couple of ivory ink pens marked Baker and there are a couple marked Thornton and one of the Thornton ivory handles is broken where it connects to the pen. All of the compasses, divider, rules, etc are marked Baker except for the black ink pen and two Thornton ivory pieces. I think there are a couple of the original pieces missing from the set and there is signs of tarnish and age but the overall set is fully functional and I would say taken care of. Buyer pays $11.00 USPS Medium Flat Rate Box shipping and handling in the 48 States and a PayPal is required after the auction.
