An antique silverplated sandalwood lined cigarette box dating from 1898 + It is intricately embellished with country scenes of ordinary people doing ordinary things. Spinning, dancing, drinking, caring for animals and children,etc. A wonderful box 5x3.5x3. The sandlwood smells sweet and the detail is fascinating. Marked Barbour and International Silver. International Silver took over some 17 companies in 1898, some of which retained their names, including Barbour. How long this practice continued the literature does not say. This box is in excellent condition with the plate only worn slightly on the back hinge area.
