BARITE + FLUORITE: Elmwood Mine, Smith Co., Tennessee. The Elmwood Mine, a zinc/germanium mine operated for only 30 years, produced many fine mineral specimens. Pockets and cavities lined with minerals were found in sizes comparable to houses! The Elmwood Mine ceased mining operations in 2003. Barite occurs is strontium-rich and occurs as a white/gray nodule or sp comprised of aggregates of small, crudely formed crystals. The barite is perched on top of an excellent grouping of deep purple fluorite crystals, with contact points on the bottom and rear of the specimen. The specimen measures 11x9 centimeters, HUGE
