BARRY S. MERRITT Sterling STARS Necklace Turn Pin into Necklace Modern Vintage This amazing artisan collar necklace was produced by Barry S. Merritt, master goldsmith, and is titled "Starry Night". Made to turn most pins into a necklace, the sterling silver necklace has a wonderful, very subtle, hand hammered textured surface featuring tiny raised stars. It is used by sliding the pin part of any pin through the tube. Most all pins having a pin bar at least 1 1/2 " wide will work. Shown in the last photos with a Merrit brooch and a Kramer costume pin attached and how it is used. Amazing detailing and style and definitely a one of kind necklace. You will never find anther like it. I have purchased the jewelry of the estate of a local doctor. Apparently, she or someone she knew well, was personally a friend of the artisan as several of the pieces are marked as to the occasion the piece was given to the doctor. I have found little information on the d esigner other than he has pieces in museums and owned several galleries in the mid 1980's in Rochester and Fairport NY. If you have any info, please let me know. I have found no pieces of his for sale (nor having been sold in the past) online. I belie ve all of his piece are one of a kind and very rare. From the pieces I have, he seem to love using unusual stone, crystals and also some repurposed pieces like antique coins and such in his designs. Product Details: Materials : Sterling silver. Measurements : The necklace measures approx. 16 1/4", end to end, and weighs approx. 49 grams. Age : Vintage Condition : Excellent vintage condition with some minor light surface scratches indicative of age and use. Any dark or colors shading is reflection from camera/surroundings and not on the pieces. Hallmarks : The necklace is hand signed "Starry Sky" Barry S. Merritt Sterling. Really a wonderful unusual one of a kind necklace. Please Note: Most of my pictures are taken with a magnifying lens giving me clear, close up photos. This tends to also magnify minor flaws on item which many times cannot be seen on actual item. Due to this magnification (especially on small items and jewelry), photos may make items look larger than they actually are.
