Up For Bidding Is A Brand New Hand Forged Samurai Sword With Free Display Stand And Sword Bag A little bit of history: History of Japanese swords goes back 2,000 years. The first metal sword was recovered from a grave in Japan. This sword is called JO-KO-GATANA which means "the sword of an ancestor". Samurai swords as we know them today are called nihonto in Japanese. They were symbols of samurai warriors, and samurai warriors usually carried two swords: a short sword called wakizashi and a long sword called katana. To wear a katana was considered to be one of the previlages that indicated one's class. During Kamakura period (1190 to 1337), blacksmith techniques for sword making reached its peak, and many of the swords designated as national treasures were made during this period. One of these is worth a fortune today. Description: In this auction, you are looking at a hand forged battle ready Japanese katana sword. The blade was created by combining two pieces of steel with different hardiness into one solid piece (iron wrap process) and differentially tempering it until desired hardiness has been achieved. Retail price is $300. Sword can be completely disassembled for cleaning/maintenance as shown on the photos.
