Rare BAUER Handpainted STRAWBERRY Batter Bowl PITCHER · Measures approximately 5¼" tall x 8½" wide (top of spout to end of handle) · Holds 5 cups (40 ounces) of liquid Up for auction is a rare Bauer Pottery batter bowl. This piece is ceramic and it has a hand painted design under the gloss glaze finish. Look closely and you can see the concentric rings on the surface - this is known as "Ring Ware" or "Ringware". Notice the fantastic design of strawberries with leaves around the pitcher with a rusty brown ring close to the top rim and close to the bottom of the pitcher. In the center on the outside of the pitcher is written in script "Cookery is an art". The artwork is painted OVER the glaze. The bottom of the bowl is indented "Bauer" and " USA ". This piece is functional as well as decorative. History of J.A. Bauer Pottery Company: John Andrew Bauer established Pottery in Paducah , Kentucky , in 1885. In 1909, Bauer decided to relocate his pottery to Los Angeles , California . The Bauer Company went out of business in 1962. Condition This piece is in EXCELLENT Condition with NO Chips, NO Cracks and NO Repairs. T are some very areas of crazing that are not very noticeable since t are no stains in the crazing. T is some light pinhead size (they are round and less than 1/16" in diameter) brown stains - these stains are mainly located on the inside bottom of the bowl and on the top rim and on the inside of the handle. T is NO Wear to the hand-painted design - the colors are BRIGHT and VIBRANT with NO FADING. Sorry about the light (shadows and white lines and white spots) reflections in the photos.
