This auction is for a very fine example of a scarce bayonet marked "REPUBLICA MEXICANA" on the crossguard. The reverse is marked with a serial number: "F 7191". The original finish of the hilt furniture and the tang has turned to a nice dark plum brown patina that almost looks to have been blued, but has not. The blade retains its fine original polish, though it shows signs of having been drawn from the scabbard several times during its life. The edge shows what I believe to be the original grind from the arsenal. The pommel has been stamped with the letters "RM " in a square, as has the button finial on the scabbard. The wooden scales are original and in very nice condition. A collector who saw this piece at the last Santa Barbara show pointed out that is was one of the few he had ever seen that was not manufactured in Chekoslovakia. The scabbard retains about 90% of its original blue finish. Overall, I'd give this bayonet an 8-8.5 rating I'm pretty easy to deal with and am usually fairly knowledgable about the stuff I sell, so please feel free to ask me any question you like. Shipping I normally use the USPS for most of my shipping and usually ship twice a week, on Monday and Friday. For the most part, unless an odd box is required, will use the materials provided by the USPS, so I will charge only shippping cost plus a nominal handling charge. I make use of the "Flat Rate Box" for many of my shipments. If the box is too heavy or exceeds the Post Office size limits, I will use UPS. I do not and will not use any other carrier because they are too time-consuming to go to w I live. I will pay any insurance cost required for what you buy Payment I offer the opportunity to I also encourage the use of Money Orders or Bank Checks. Personal checks are rarely if ever acceptable. If we have done business before, this may be an option. Foreign Buyers I am not bilingual; I know that for some of you this is hopelessly provincial, but I don't have much opportunity to speak other languages.
