Up for auction is an original Japanese Bayonet with the following: Type 30 bayonet that fits Type 38 and/or Type 99 Japanese rifles, Metal scabbord also original, Overall length is 20" and the blade length is just over 15 1/2", Straight guillon, Wood handle, Blued steel, Markings- look like a number 8 with a circle around it and 3 chevrons inside a square, Markings indicate the following- Toyoda Jidoshoki Seisakusho / Toyoda Automatic Loom Works under the supervision of Nagoya. Items of interest: Toyoda later became the Toyota auto maker! Because of the markings it is highly likely the piece was made in 1937. The piece has it's original patina for blued steel. I purchased this piece at an estate auction of Charles Ward from New Virginia, Iowa, who brought it back as a war prize from China during the war. The wood handle is rather loose on one side. The item is fairly rare, and would be a nice item to display.
