Species: Garnet group, andradite/grossular series, w/ sanidine
Locality: San Pedro Mine, New Placers District, Santa Fe Co., New Mexico Size: Mini/thumbnail - 3.4 x 2.5 x 2.3 cm (1-3/8 x 1 x 7/8") Notes: These sharp little garnets are intermediate in composition between andradite, the calcium-iron garnet, and grossular, the calcium-aluminum species. Just put it on your x-ray diffraction unit or SEM to find out which is dominant... Whatever you call it, these are pretty little crystals, with an unusual but attractive brown shade - deeper than cafe-au-lait but lighter than root beer. (I always use food and drink comparisons to characterize brown colors - people automatically know what I'm talking about.) Tiny, light beigey-white sanidine crystals are scattered about the specimen. BILBOBURGLAR IS BACK! EAST MEETS WEST. Now that I'm set up in New Mexico, I'm pulling out as much fine southwestern and western material as I can find, along with old favorites from my ancestral Great Lakes region. Over the rest of December, watch for: # Rhodochrosites from Colorado and Montana (Mexico, too) # Kelly smithsonite plus fluorite, garnets and more from New Mexico # Colorado barytes in gold and blue # Fluorescents from Arizona # Pyrite, fluorescent zircons and more yet from Colorado # And let's not forget Nevada, Utah, California, Texas and so on! Not to mention crystals from the quarries and mines of Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan (and Canada, eh?), copper country classics from the Keweenaw, and the usual mix of fluorescents, classic mineral specimens and agates from around the world. Also expect reasonable minimum bids, no reserve prices, quality specimens and great customer service. As always, I will hold items up to 2 weeks for combined shipping to cut your mailing costs. Payment must be made within 7 days of invoice unless other arrangements are made. PayPal is preferred to allow faster shipping. I also accept cashier's checks and money orders in U.S. funds. I do not accept bank transfers because of unpredictable fees. E-mail for details, especially for shipments outside the USA and Canada.
