Species: Esperite (FL yellow), hardystonite (FL indigo), willemite (FL green) plus andradite & franklinite (non-FL)
Locality: Franklin Mine, Franklin, Sussex Co., New Jersey Size: 79x72x4-5 mm Notes: This fine, large 3"-plus slab shows esperite surrounding hardystonite, frozen in the process of replacing it. The main traces of remaining hardystonite are on the edge of the slab in the middle of the esperite, as as a scattering of purplish-gray blobs imbedded in the main mass of esperite. These two type-locality minerals from Franklin are among the most sought-after fluorescent minerals, because of their rarity (each is only found in 2 localities worldwide) and their unique, irreplaceable colors - esperite the most intense lemon yellow and hardystonite a deep. mysterious indigo that sometimes looks purple and sometimes blue. The bright chartreuse willemite adds color and contrast against the brown and black, non-fluorescent matrix minerals. Who: I have been collecting rocks since I was six - eons ago! I also like to play and listen to "rock" music. In real life, I'm an elementary school teacher. I sell what I like: minerals, lapidary material, and occasional fossils.
