Up for auction is a beautiful 103lb Arm and Hammer / Bullock H. Channon Co anvil that was made by the Columbus Anvil and Forging Company. In the book Anvils in America, Richard Postman writes the following regarding this anvil: "After Mr Finneran , Sr. bought the company in the 1920's, I am told that all of their anvils were made for the trade only under the Arm and Hammer trademark. They did not put the name or trademark of any other company or hardware supply house on their anvils. However, before Mr. Finneran took over I know for certain that the Columbus Anvil and Forging Company made anvils for other companies, putting that companies trademark on the anvils. H.Channon Company of Chicago , Illinois, was one of these . Bullock was this company's logo, and it appeared in this manner: BULLOCK H. Channon Co. Chicago I have recorded five of the Columbus and Forging Company made Bullocks. On one, serial number 37209, appears with the Channon trademark stamped on the side with what remains of the Arm and Hammer trademark under it. Whoever ground the side to take off the Arm and Hammer did not complete the job." That is the case with this anvil, while very faint you can make out the original Arm and Hammer trademark under the Bullock trademark. It also is stamped Wrought Iron.
